Skills-Validation Discussion: A Simple Three-Step Process Featured

Managers and above in SkyHive can "Assess" their direct reports' skills, confirming their competency level.

However, it is crucial first to comprehend their strengths and weaknesses while allowing them to provide input on their skillset.

This is a simple three-step process that has been effectively utilized by numerous SkyHive clients:

Step 1: Review Skill Profile In SkyHive

Visit each direct report's profiles to understand further the skills they have self-assessed.

  • Take note of any missing skills.
  • Identify skills where your employee may have over- or under-rated themselves.
  • Note any skills that you were previously unaware your employee possessed. Seek clarity on these skills, as evaluating them without proper understanding would be unfair.

Step 2: Skill Development Discussion

Identify any missing skills or adjust proficiency levels if necessary.

Start to think about what skills they may want to prioritize for development in 2023/2024 to achieve their career goals.

Resources to help prepare for these conversations:

  • LinkedIn Learning courses on career development
  • The Muse's career advice articles
  • Harvard Business Review's career management resources
  • TED Talks on career growth and development
  • Books on career coaching, such as "Co-Active Coaching" by Laura Whitworth, Karen Kimsey-House, Henry Kimsey-House, and Phillip Sandahl
  • Online networking events or webinars hosted by professional associations in your industry
  • Industry conferences or events that focus on professional development and career growth

Step 3: Validate Skills in SkyHive

After completing the steps above, proceed with the Managerial Validation and monitor their advancement.

Subsequently, your direct report will be able to compare and contrast their Self Assessment with your Managerial Validation.
