Increasing Your Total Match Score

Match Score Overview

SkyHive provides a pair of percentage match scores related to job opportunities for each candidate.

They are broken into two categories:

  1. Total Match
  2. Skills Match

The Total Match score also incorporates non-skill factors such as relevant experience, job type, location and compensation preference. A detailed breakdown is provided in the expanded candidate card.

The Skills Match score is calculated purely based on how well an individual's skills match the job requirements.

Increasing Total Match Scores

If you encounter internal job opportunities with a lower Total Match score, I have several suggestions for you to make to increase it ultimately.

Scenario 1: Compensation

Compensation: In the example below, the candidate’s Total Match has decreased by a certain percentage based on how much money you seek for a position compared to what that particular job opportunity offers.

Recommendation: If this happens during your experience, you could adjust your Minimum Annual Salary or Minimum Hourly Rate under Job Preferences to align more closely with the specific job compensation.

Scenario 2: Location

Location: In the example below, the candidate’s Total Match has decreased by a certain percentage based on a job that is physically located in Toronto, Ontario, while this individual is located in Boston.

Recommendation: If you're looking for job opportunities closer to your home office, you could change your Job Preferences to indicate that you are open to Relocation.

It is also helpful to suggest seeking Remote opportunities where Distance is not a factor.

Scenario 3: Relevant Experience

Relevant Experience: In the example below, the candidate’s Total Match has decreased by a certain percentage based on lacking relevant experience to the job posted. This would derive from their work experience or education.

This candidate has a formal education in Computer Science and has worked as a Java Developer in their previous three positions.

This specific job posting is for a Sales Engineer.

Recommendation: You can find job opportunities that complement your background in work experience, education or certifications.

Alternatively, if you want a career change into a new area and have sales experience, you could add related content to your profile through experience, education and certificates.
