Assigning a Career Path

SkyHive’s Career Path tool allows you to assign new career opportunities, helps you identify hidden and adjacent skills, skills gaps to desired career goals, and targeted learning pathways to bridge those gaps, ultimately supporting an employee to upskill and advance their career.

Suddenly, this makes the employee feel more valued as they can visualize career advancement while upskilling and becoming an asset to your organization.

Step 1: You can assign Career Paths to specific employees by selecting the blue ASSIGN NEW CAREER PATH at the top right of the Career Path Overview page.

Step 2: Select the employee and sort by Name, Email or ID, Position, or Department.

Note: If an employee currently has an Ongoing Career Path and you decide to select them, the new Career Path will override their ongoing one.

Step 3: Selecting the blue arrow on the employee's left hand will reveal a dropdown displaying their Common Skills and Skills Missing.

Step 4: Once you select the employee, click the blue NEXT button at the bottom of the page.

Step 5: You can select a path from the following options:

  • Suggested Positions: These are recommended by SkyHive based on labor market data
  • Enter your own: You can enter your specific title or search for a position defined within your company where skills have already been set. You can also enter a position where it's currently a Job Opening posted by your company.

Exploring options under the Suggest Positions drop-down menu will display a percentage show of how closely their skills match this Suggested Position.

Green: 80%-100%:

Step 6: You can then see how well their skills match with the selected role, along with the skills in common that they already possess and the skills they can train to become more qualified for the future career.

In the example below, the Director of Recruiting was selected from the Suggested Positions tab.

Skill Match %: Match between skill profile and labor market requirements for this position.

Shared Skills: Display the skills they already have with the desired position.

Skills to Train: Contain Current and Future skills, based on present-day labour market demand for the position.

Partial Skills: Display where employees can be trained to improve their proficiency in a skill they already have. The insufficient level will be revealed compared to the required level for the selected position. If they are enrolled in training programs, the Skills In Training section will show the skills they are currently learning that can (partially) fill the skills gaps in their selected career pathway.

You may find that they do, in fact, already have some of the skills listed in the Skills to Train section. In that case, you can add these skills directly to their profile by clicking ADD TO PROFILE.

Screenshot_-_2022-05-05T142839.468.pngThe training in SkyHive when building the Career Path will also list the skills they train. You can search through the list of training and select ADD to add training courses.

As training opportunities are added, the skills being covered by the training will be highlighted green to show that they have been appropriately covered in this Career Path.
