Add a Department and Define Skills

Typically, a department has a set of core skills and tools required by all division members, no matter what position an employee holds. SkyHive provides a framework that allows you to define the core skills and tools required on a department level. You can easily view the skills gaps and assign targeted training and peer mentorship to upskill your workers effectively.

To define the skills and tools required by all members of a department,

Step 1: Click Enterprise Structure on the left menu bar. If you don't see a menu bar, click on the hamburger menu icon in the top left corner, then select Enterprise Structure.

Step 2: Go to the DEPARTMENTS tab, then select Create New Department:

Note: Alternatively, by clicking the Actions drop-down menu, you can Import Departments that will provide the following instructions for you to pre-populate the Department fields:

Step 3: Enter or import the department name along with a parent department (if applicable), reference ID, status, and department manager. Then add the departmental core skills:

You can then search and add employees to the department.

Moving forward, when you add new workers on your Employees page, the department you've created will appear as an option for the new user:

Step 4: Once the department and its core skills are determined, workers' skills gaps to the core skills are instantly identified. You can use the Mentorship module to find internal mentors to pair the employee with based on the targeted skills.  Learn how to Create a New Mentorship pairing here

Core Skills

Under Enterprise Structure > Department view, an Admin can add and assign a Manager to one.

Note: The Manager section will be hidden if no Manager is added.

Core Skills can also be assigned to a Department, which is a way to measure how each employee assigned matches these Core Skills.

Skills Match will now be visible for each employee assigned to the Department, which displays how their skills match the Core Skills defined at a Department level.
